Born in Laguna Beach, California in 1973, Aaron P. Van de Kerckhove spent much
of his childhood playing with dynamite, fiddling with gadgets, and wreaking the
general havoc that young boys do. His Father, the Belgian painter Georges Van de
Kerckhove, and his mother, a Californian connoisseur of art and travel, encouraged
his drawings and interesting assemblages from an early age. At age 25, at the University
of California in Santa Cruz his forms began to take dynamic shape as he finished his
first serious large scale kinetic sculptures. Now a Santa Cruz metal sculptor by trade, Aaron continues to entertain his affinity for
objects in motion. His handsome rotating sculptures can be seen in Santa Cruz on
East Cliff Dr. and 38th Ave right next to the water, at the Tercera Gallery in Los Gatos,
at public squares and centers like Mount Madonna in Watsonville, and in many private
collections on large estates around the U.S. Recent Shows like The Conversation at the
Full Support Gallery have garnered attention and several reviews. At 30, he has accomplished what many artists wish. He works his own hours at his studio /
warehouse in Watsonville. There, he keeps a wide assortment of tools and formidable metal
working machines that perform a variety of tasks adding to his potential. He is not limited
to sculpture, but also dabbles in design and fabrication, creating industrial steel furniture
that he sells through interior design stores like Lounge, SF. He is an artist and entrepreneur,
a dedicated dreamer and an exceptionally hard worker. His commitment to good form
and function in both Art and Design can be easily seen in the quality of his lines and the
confidence of his welds.
